Grapes:
Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Merlot, Colorino are the wines produced by red grapes cultivated in the vineyard.
Vineyards Technical Information:
- Vineyards are on hills facing south-east.
- Average altitude: 200 mts (660 ft) a.s.l.
- Soil composed of a particular kind of clay called "castagnina" (chestnut).
- Method of cultivation "filare a capovolto" (to overturn).
Winemaking method:
- Grapes are hand picked for best selection.
- Traditional winemaking and fermentation is done in typical wooden tubs.
- The wine is later transferred to Tuscan oak barrels.
- One month later, an additional hand picking of grapes is done. A process known as "governo toscano", which is a selection of aged grapes to produce a concentrated grape juice rich in flavors, color and alcohol.
- This wine is aged for 1 year in oak barrels and is then bottled.
Tasting notes:
Wine has a ruby color to it. It is well balanced and pleasant to the palate. The grape has an intense wood and wild fruits with delicate "Moscato d'Amburgo" flavor. To the palate, it leaves a delightful, yet a pleasant spicy and light tanning flavor giving the wine a unique and harmonious blackberry taste.
